Since the iPhone 4 only supports iOS 7.1.2 and DIRECTV app only supports hardware running at least iOS 8, that means that iPhone 4 can't run the DIRECTV app

tae111, that's a different problem. Usually that symptom is caused by weak or intermittent satellite reception, causing the recording to stop. How are your signal readings? Probably best to start...

I had the program also recorded on my HR24 upstairs and it will play on that in it's entirety. Just the HR34 is having the issue.
